North Austin Foundation is a Texas nonprofit organization established in 1986 to support individuals navigating recovery through community, connection, and recovery support.
For decades, the Foundation has served the Austin recovery community by providing substance-free community space, supporting peer-led recovery efforts, and expanding recovery-focused support services and partnerships.
Today, North Austin Foundation continues evolving while remaining rooted in the belief that recovery happens through stability, accountability, support, and community connection.
North Austin Foundation exists to support individuals navigating recovery by providing substance-free community space, recovery stabilization support, peer connection, and community-centered recovery resources.

We envision a stronger recovery community where individuals have access to safe, supportive environments, meaningful connections, and opportunities to build stability while working toward long-term recovery and wellness.
We believe recovery is strengthened through community, structure, accountability, and support.
North Austin Foundation focuses on creating accessible recovery-centered spaces where individuals can find connection, peer support, recovery resources, and opportunities for stabilization while preparing for the next stage of recovery.
Our approach includes:
• Substance-free community space
• Peer-led recovery meetings held within our facility
• Recovery stabilization support
• Community partnerships and collaboration
• Recovery-focused events and initiatives
• Resource navigation and support connection
• Wellness and recovery programming development

Our History
In March 1986, the building at 1000 Prairie Trail opened its doors to the Austin recovery community. From the beginning, North Austin Foundation was created as a place where people could find connection, support, and stability while working toward recovery.
Over time, the Foundation became a familiar gathering place for independent peer led recovery groups and community members seeking substance free support. While North Austin Foundation does not operate or govern anonymous recovery groups, the facility has long provided meeting space for AA, CA, and similar recovery fellowships.
In 1991, North Austin Foundation purchased the building at 1000 Prairie Trail. The facility was later renovated into multiple spaces supporting different aspects of the organization’s mission, including recovery meeting space, community support areas, and Project Helping Hands programming.
Today, North Austin Foundation continues to grow through the support of volunteers, donors, community members, recovery advocates, and local partnerships committed to strengthening recovery support throughout Austin.
Recovery does not happen in isolation.
North Austin Foundation exists to provide a safe, supportive environment where individuals can stabilize, reconnect, strengthen recovery foundations, and prepare for the next stage of recovery.
Every donor, volunteer, partner, and supporter helps make that possible.
